The cat in question -

The cat in question

Every morning,
On my way to the bus stop
I see you perched on your tree
The slanted sunlight
Making your slit-like eyes
Even more tiny.

You greet me with your grumpy face
Maybe you’re annoyed with the sun
But you’re like this
On cloudy days too.

Seeing you is the highlight of my morning
And my whole day
If the drapes are drawn,
My face turns ashen
As if I forgot my breakfast,
Or didn’t sleep at night
My day takes on a darker shade.

That summer you were gone
The whole time
Probably to travel
To exotic places
While my beating heart
Felt your absence
Days were not the same
Without you in the morning

But you were back
As the classes started
My face lit up
Seeing that old grumpy face
As if I saw an old friend again
They say,
“Absence makes the heart grow fonder”
But I do not want your absence.
My heart is as fond of you,
As it was on the first day.

I keep talking to you
“Such a little baby”
My friends think it’s hilarious
But I think it’s just right.

You are a baby,
Even if you are old
One day,
My intro“bird”ed self
Will find enough courage
To knock on your door
And meet you in person
No glass door,
Just me, and you.
